Not for us

It’s really hard to figure out how much to add to your dog’s food and when I add more than a quarter of a teaspoon, my dog won’t eat his food. So it’s definitely not for us.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts, Pamela. We're sorry to hear that the supplement has not been a fit for you and your dog.

Balance It® supplements do not come with general use instructions, because the amount used is dependent on the recipe fed. Instructions on how to use the Balance It® supplement can come from a free recipe created on our website, from your veterinarian, or from a recipe created by a board-certified veterinary nutritionist®.

The packing insert found within your recent order directs customers to visit to build free, custom homemade recipes to determine the supplement dose. If you need any help with the online process, or would like assistance with any created recipe(s), please reach out to our Customer Care Team that can be reached at +1-530-756-3862 and/or

Our supplements are typically very well accepted when mixed with preferred food, especially if gradually added to an existing diet as some dogs may be very reluctant to accept any change even if seemingly slight. If your dog is still having a hard time eating their food with the supplement, it may also help to try mixing the powder with a small amount of something special your dog really loves, such as peanut butter (not made with xylitol) or honey (assuming they do not have any health conditions that prevent their use). This can make the supplement and overall diet more enticing as essential minerals, vitamins, and most amino acids are not inherently desirable. We also have some helpful tips in our FAQ titled, 'My dog/cat will not eat their food with the Balance It® supplement added or mixed in. What should or can I do/try?' at

Thank you

One of my dogs was having serious stomach problems and I couldn’t find a food he could tolerate. My vet suggested homemade food and to use your recipe maker and supplement. Within a few days we saw marked improvement. It literally saved his life. Now I alternate between homemade and a fresh delivery service.

Robyn, you're very welcome. We are so happy to hear about Murphy's improvement since making the switch to Balance It®.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. Wishing Murphy continued health and happiness!

Eve Pinto
Life saver

My dog Ricky will not eat any dog food. Only home cooked meals. Due to him having diabetes, I had to be careful what to feed him. Balance it has made that possible. My doctor approved his diabetes on Balance it site. I put in foods Ricky likes and Balance it did the rest. Calculated how much and then with their supplement, all my worries are gone. Ricky has been thriving ever since. Down to the Dr's ideal weight too! Thank you Balance It.

Thank you for sharing your dog's story, Eve. Ricky is a handsome boy and his coat looks so shiny! It's wonderful to hear he is thriving on his diet and is at his ideal weight. We are also glad to hear that our free online Recipe Builder ( ) and the Balance It® Canine supplement have helped ease your worries.

We hope Ricky continues to do well for many years to come.

So far so good!!

So I decided to start making my dogs food at home and after quite a bit of research I ended up on the balanceit website. Their product is a little expensive but if you are making homemade dog food my guess is that the price is a secondary concern. I ordered one of the 200g in 10x packs just to try it out and see if my dog would eat the food I made her and so far she is loving it. I am going to go ahead and order the bigger container. I think the biggest factor in choosing this company was the recipe builder on their site. This was extremely helpful in terms of making sure that I was going to provide a food that meets the nutritional requirements for my dog. It took all the guesswork or time consuming research to come up with a recipe that she would eat. I punched in her info and handful of ingredients I was planning to use and it gave me a recipe to follow and even adjusted it for a weeks worth of food!! I’m happy and my dog is extremely happy and she even seems to have a bit more pep in her step after a few weeks on the fresh food!

Alexander, thank you for taking the time to leave such a positive review for Balance It® Canine and our free online Recipe Builder ( ). We also love the pictures you shared of your dog and her delicious homemade food! She is a beauty, and it is clear you put a lot of care into her well-being.

We understand home-cooking with the right nutrition can be more expensive than feeding commercial kibble. Our founder has co-authored multiple studies along with faculty at leading veterinary schools (e.g., J Am Vet Med Assoc. 2022;260(S3):S53-S60 ) that show that while home cooked food (aka human) grade diets may be less expensive than canned or wet feed (aka animal) grade food, they cost more than comparable kibble or dry feed grade commercially prepared diets. Overall we are confident that our ecosystem of technical expertise & support, free recipes, and human dietary supplement grade Balance It® supplements provide the best overall value and convenience possible.

We appreciate your support and hope your dog continues to thrive on her homemade diet with Balance It® Canine.
