Dosage guidance missing

I get that you should be adding this fiber based on stool consistency but there is no guidance on how much to start with. Both the package itself and the product page lack a nutritional analysis of how much fiber is in a teaspoon. It also did not come up as an option when I tried to add it to a recipe I was making. I guess I'll google powdered cellulose and hope its the same as whatever comes up, but the lack of official information provided bothers me

Thank you for sharing your experience with our product, Mark. We do not see that you have placed an order with the provided email address with us, though your message indicates that you have likely purchased Balance It Firming Fiber.

You can find nutrient analysis data, including the current bulk density of 1.65 g per teaspoon, on the Firming Fiber product page ( https://shop.balance.it/ then click on the Firming Fiber image/entry/listing) under the 'Ingredients & Nutrient Analysis' section.

We're sorry to hear about the confusion you have regarding dosing, as our products do not come with general use instructions based solely on body weight. For all of our products, use instructions come from a free recipe created on our website, from your veterinarian, or from a recipe created by a board-certified veterinary nutritionist®. We do our best to indicate this in various areas of the website including in the product's 'Size & Dosing' section in the link above, and also in the shipping insert.

Balance It Firming Fiber will be added to recipes when the dog/cat is approved for a higher fiber requirement/condition, and the recipe's base foods alone do not provide enough dietary fiber. If there is no requirement or need for higher or more dietary fiber, the software will not add this product to the recipe. You can request online approval from your veterinarian to access higher fiber recipes by following our FAQ titled, 'How can I submit a veterinary approval request for my animal companion with a medical condition? And why do I even need to do this?' and entering 'higher insoluble fiber' and/or 'high total dietary fiber' in the provided condition search tool at balance.it/recipes and proceeding to build and view such recipes.

You can also ask your veterinarian for help in determining an appropriate dose of powdered cellulose, the sole ingredient in Firming Fiber, for your companion's specific needs. There is no standard or established universal dose based on weight in veterinary medicine, and often it requires trial and error, starting at a lower amount and adjusting based on response.

If you or your veterinarian have any questions about this product, please feel free to contact our Customer Care Team at info@balanceit.com. We are happy to help!

Dog wouldn’t eat it

Not only would my dog not eat the food after adding these supplements, the supplements were in powder form and your recommendation was for almost a quarter cup for the 2 combined!

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience, Robin.

We're sorry to hear that your dog did not take to the Balance It® Firming Fiber. We see that you were approved by your veterinarian to access recipes that had moderate total dietary fiber for a fiber responsive medical condition. This requirement will result in a total dietary fiber concentration of 20 - 30 g/Mcal. The Recipe Builder added enough Balance It Firming Fiber to meet this requirement given your other food/ingredient selections. In one case, we see that a saved recipe in your account called for 4 7/8 tsp Firming Fiber and 3 3/8 tsp Balance It Canine for one day.

If you’d like to reduce the added fiber you may wish to speak with your veterinarian or a board-certified veterinary nutritionist about selecting grains and/or vegetables higher in dietary fiber as part of your preferred recipe ingredients. Caution may be needed as not all fibers are the same and some from natural sources can be a mixture of both insoluble and soluble fibers which may not be suitable for the medical condition of concern.

Also it might be helpful to know that if your dog does not like their food with supplements at first, it can help to start with smaller amounts and then gradually increase them to the dose(s) in your recipe to see if your dog will accept them over time. We have more helpful suggestions in our FAQ titled at balance.it/faqs, 'My dog/cat will not eat their food with the Balance It® supplement added or mixed in. What should or can I do/try?'

Our Customer Care Team would be happy to assist you further if you send an email to info@balanceit.com. We can answer any questions you have and/or help you return your recent order for a refund. Thank you again for your valuable feedback.
