Glad This Product Is Available

One of my cats is on a veterinary-designed diet because of his inflammatory bowel disease. He also has kidney disease. Balance It Feline K is a required ingredient in that recipe. The cat is doing very well.

Thank you for your kind review of Balance It® Feline K, Brenda. We're glad to hear your cat is doing very well with the help of our product.

We appreciate your long-time support, and we wish your cat continued success on their veterinary-designed diet!

exactly what my kitty needed

We recently learned that our cat, Curly was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease. We now cook for her and my kitty's nutritionist highly recommended Balance It to be added to her food. She doesn't even notice it. She eats her food right up without a problem. thank you Balance It.

Thank you for leaving the first review for Balance It Feline K! We're glad to hear Curly is gobbling up her food with no issues.

Balance It® Feline K was updated to reflect the newest research (as recently published here: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8692190/ ) regarding optimal dietary phosphorus restriction concentration and calcium to phosphorus ratio in cats with renal/kidney disease. Consequently, the supplement now has no added phosphorus (previously it was very low) and less calcium. Also using the Recipe Builder, a free recipe using a combination of human supplements, that can be purchased elsewhere, is also available if that alternative option is instead possible.

If you have any questions about your recipes or the use of Balance It Feline K, please feel free to send a message to our Customer Care Team at info@balanceit.com. We are happy to help!

My kitty hates the smell

It is difficult enough trying to feed a kitty with kidney disease but trying to get my kitty to come near this stuff is almost impossible. It smells terrible and she won't even smell it let alone eat it. Also, the package received is only 3 months from expiration. $800 of useless nutritionist consult and a useless recipe later, I am at a total loss, and my poor kitty is forced to deal with this.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your review, TKE. We're very sorry to hear that Balance It® Feline K did not work for your cat. We appreciate the opportunity to address your concerns and hopefully offer some options for you.

We looked into your recent order and noticed that the expiration date of the Balance It® Feline K product you received is July 5th, 2025. This is almost 7 months from your purchase date.

Our expiration dates are never longer than 11 months, and we do our best to assure at least 3 months of shelf-life on all shipments. Your order falls within this timeframe. Supplements are perishable as vitamins naturally degrade with time. The rate vitamins degrade is increased when in the presence of trace minerals. We account for this inherent degradation with our formulations to ensure that there are extra vitamins present when first made. These overages have to be limited to avoid excess at the beginning of the supplement’s shelf-life. Since we take the extra step of assaying all guaranteed essential nutrients in a laboratory, the longest shelf-life we ever might have is 11 months (since it can take a month for testing, release, and packaging).

Concentrated vitamin & amino acid supplements like ours have an inherent, natural odor. Vitamins' smell is in part how they got their name from 'amine' which can smell 'fishy' or ammonia-like when they were discoverd in the last century. As vitamins degrade over time from oxidation (with exposure to oxygen-rich air), this aroma can become more noticeable. We add extra vitamins, called overages, to ensure that all guaranteed vitamin minimum concentrations are met through the expiration date printed on the pouch or bag. For Feline K there are even more added vitamins and amino acids to address some unique needs when a lower protein diet is fed to an obligate carnivore and they are urinating more. Some key amino acids contain sulfur increasing the natural odor.

We do not mask these essential nutrients' odors with any flavorings or coatings as is done with tableting. Using a dry, purified, and very fine powder allows for very good dispersion and mixing of these essential nutrients with preferred foods, helps with acceptance, and prevents adding antigens that may not be tolerated. If desired, one can store the supplement in the freezer if the container is very tightly sealed to prevent any moisture entering. While this won't extend the shelf life, it may reduce the odor. The Balance It® supplements are very well accepted/tolerated overall.

It sounds like you are working with a board-certified veterinary nutritionist® who has provided your cat's recipe directly to you. You may wish to speak with them to see if perhaps they could offer other solutions for foritfying your cat's recipes such as using a combination of supplements designed for humans to see if those may be better tolerated.

You are welcome to return your recent order for a refund of $62.08. Our return policy can be found here: https://balance.it/faqs#vet_approvals_orders_shipping_260

We also noticed that you have an active subscription with us for a shipment every 30 days. A member of our Customer Care Team will follow-up with you via email with detailed instructions on how to cancel your automatic reshipment if you wish to do so.

We hope this information is helpful, and wish you the best of luck in finding a solution that works well for your cat.

No Longer Worth It - Since changes in packaging/pricing.

Not worth it, but I feel arm-twisted into buying it. Unfortunately, this is the only good option for my cat. I don't know what has changed, but by the digital scale it takes 4 times or more by volume than it used to take to get the amount needed for the recipe. The cost of using BalanceIt is exorbitant now and reordering double quantity is necessary every 3 months or so. Frankly, I feel price-gouged after having several years of access to the product for probably less than 10% of the the current annual expense.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback, Cheryl. We're pleased to hear that the supplement has been beneficial for your cat, but we're sorry to learn that you no longer find it worthwhile. We value the opportunity to address your concerns.

Balance It® Feline K was reformulated as of April 2nd, 2023 to reflect the newest research (as recently published here: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8692190/ ) regarding optimal dietary phosphorus restriction concentration and calcium to phosphorus ratio in cats with renal/kidney disease. Any dosing for, or recipes using, the old formulation are no longer valid, and new recipes should be generated for free using the Recipe Builder at balance.it or pursued with one’s veterinarian and/or board-certified veterinary nutritionist®. To learn more, please visit our FAQ 'Why has Balance It® Feline K been reformulated (as of April 2, 2023), and/or why can I no longer get a passing recipe using Balance It® Feline K when using the Recipe Builder?' found at https://balance.it/faqs .

We understand and appreciate your concern about the increase in price, and we apologize for any inconvenience it may have or has caused. Our March 1, 2024 price increase is only our second price increase since April 2019, almost five years ago. During that time we have worked very hard to improve, including our efficiency, to maximize the value we offer and minimize any cost increases. You can learn more about our efforts and improvements in our FAQ titled 'Why did your prices increase?' again found at https://balance.it/faqs .

Our founder has co-authored multiple studies along with faculty at leading veterinary schools (e.g., J Am Vet Med Assoc. 2022;260(S3):S53-S60 ) that show that while home cooked food (aka human) grade diets may be less expensive than canned or wet feed (aka animal) grade food, they cost more than comparable kibble or dry feed grade commercially prepared diets. Overall we are confident that our ecosystem of technical expertise & support, free recipes, and human dietary supplement grade Balance It® supplements provide the best overall value and convenience possible.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused by our newer packaging. While the CRC (child-resistant closure) bags we currently use remain the best available solution for regulatory/legal requirements, environmental concerns, and user needs, we are continuously exploring opportunities for improvement.

Please feel free to email our Customer Care Team at info@balanceit.com if you have any questions. We're here to help!
