Renal diet recipe?

Hi. Is there a source for feline renal diet recipees with your product?

Thank you for leaving a 5 star review for Balance It Feline. We do have free recipes for cats with renal disease at balance.it/recipes , though they likely will not use Balance It Feline. Once you create or get a recipe, it will indicate which supplement(s) to use and how much need(s) to be added.

If your cat has a medical condition under a veterinarian’s care, you will be required per the FDA (CPG Sec. 690.150) to submit a veterinary approval request before you can view a nutritionally appropriate recipe or purchase certain supplements that can only be sold under the direction of a veterinarian.

For more details on how to get access to recipes for your cat's medical condition, please see our instructional FAQ titled, 'How can I submit a veterinary approval request for my animal companion with a medical condition? And why do I even need to do this?' at balance.it/faqs .

If you need any more help getting started, please feel free to contact our Customer Care Team by sending an email to info@balanceit.com. We are happy to help!

Balance It Feline is an excellent supplement for our cat’s diet. Thank you!

You are very welcome and thank you Ralane for the great review of not just Balance It Feline but also Balance It Canine elsewhere.

Balance it Feline

I am happy that I can get this product because Molly eats organic chicken so its necessary. My only struggle is that it never comes with more than a 6 or so month expiration. When you have a 10 pound cat, you can't begin to use it all. I wish I could purchase less.

Thank you for your review, Kathleen! We hope Molly is enjoying her organic chicken meals with Balance It Feline.

If you are unable to use the full 500 gram bag before it expires, you may wish to consider purchasing some of our smaller 20 gram pouches instead to help avoid waste.

Here is also a little more on shelf-life if of interest. Our expiration dates are never longer than 11 months, and we do our best to assure at least 3 months of shelf-life on all shipments. Supplements are perishable as vitamins naturally degrade with time. The rate vitamins degrade is increased when in the presence of trace minerals. We account for this inherent degradation with our formulations to ensure that there are extra vitamins present when first made. These overages have to be limited to avoid excess at the beginning of the supplement’s shelf-life. Since we take the extra step of assaying all guaranteed essential nutrients in a laboratory, the longest shelf-life we ever might have is 11 months (since it can take a month for testing, release, and packaging).

So far, so good

I am hesitant to go too positive with comments, not because the product isn't great but because I've tried so many things that work for a short time and then fail. Again, not the product, it's the poor cat. I also bought the fiber supplement but don't really know how much to add, like amount to be used with the recipe. TY!

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, Betty! We hope your cat continues to do well with our supplement. The amount of supplement and Firming Fiber needed is recommended based on the exact recipe you create on our website or that is provided to you by your veterinarian. Our Balance It Customer Care Team will be reaching out to you to provide support on your recipe(s).

My cat doesn't need allergy shots

My cat is allergic to many ingredients found in commercial cat food. However, he is not allergic to poultry or cornmeal. There is one brand that I can buy at a specialty per store or online, but the single serve cans are $2 each, and are mainly gravy, and my cat was still hungry after eating. So I decided to make my own cat food. My car's veterinarian recommended that I use Balance It as a supplement to include the vitamins, minerals and taurine that he needs. BalanceIt, plus using dust-free litters improved his skin and bowl movements so much that the veterinarian said that "whatever you are doing, keep on doing it". She had told me, after the allergy testing had been done, that she had never seen a cat with so many allergies, and that he would need shots in addition to food without any of his allergens, simply because it would be impossible to control the dust in the house that much. After seeing him again after using the BalanceIt, she said that he didn't need the shots. Thank you for providing what my cat needs.

Thank you for sharing your experience, Elizabeth. It has warmed our hearts. We understand how difficult it can be to find a diet that works for a companion with many sensitivities. We're happy to have been a part of your cat's journey to better health!

Red Scoop

I don't like the packaging because it's too hard to open. Each time I have to open it I struggle and having carpal tunnel syndrome, its constantly damaging my wrist. Other than that my cat seems to like it in her food and hopefully it helps her breast cancer. That's what counts.

Laura, thank you for taking the time to leave a review! We are sorry to hear that the bags are hard for you to open. By federal law, both of our 500 and 600 gram bags must have a child resistant closure (CRC; aka “be childproof”) given their high nutrient content. This special packaging requirement protects against accidental ingestion of all of the contents at once. The size may not work well/best for you, but we also do have smaller 20 gram pouches available that can be torn open as they hold less nutrient and do not need a resealable CRC as a consequence. We hope Princess Lily does well.

Slow shipping

The product is decent but the slow shipping time is making me look for other alternatives

River, thank you for your review of Balance It® Feline. We're sorry to hear of your disappointment with our shipping time.

All orders are picked, packed, and processed for carrier pickup within 48 business hours (excluding weekends and holidays) after they are placed. We noticed that you have selected our free shipping option for your last two orders, which can take anywhere from 3-12 business days to be delivered domestically (once shipped from our facility in Northern California). Your most recent order is expected to be delivered one week from your order date.

We understand your shipment is important and understand that this timeframe may not meet your ongoing needs. You may also wish to consider ordering earlier if that is possible, setting up a subscription order, and/or selecting an expedited shipping option (an additional fee applies for expedited shipping). If those don't work for you, we also offer free recipes at balance.it/recipes that use supplements designed for humans that may be locally available for purchase (click the human supplements checkbox on Step 2 to see those options).

Please feel free to reach out to our Customer Care Team at info@balanceit.com if you have any further concerns regarding your recent order. We are always happy to help!

Made my cat perilously ill

This product, when used to the exact letter of the instructions, made my cat dangerously sick. I would never try this again or recommend it to anyone.

Thank you for sharing this with us, Lilah. We're sorry to hear about your cat's experience with the two 20 gram pouches of Feline supplement, Lot# 231311, you purchased in mid-December. We do not have any reports of similar issues related to any known food quality or safety issue and track those very closely especially given our third-party food (aka human) grade certifications and state & federal registrations. We also have no other record of any contact from you since your order arrived on December 23rd. Our Customer Care Management Team will reach out to gather more information about your cat's experience and help facilitate a return and refund for your order.

There are dogs and cats that unfortunately can have or develop 'idiosyncratic' or unique reactions to anything in their diet including very rarely our purified and limited ingredient supplement. Sometimes this is a reason people have tried to home cook as commercially prepared foods providing similar feed (animal) grade essential nutrient providing ingredients have not been tolerated. If your cat is unable to tolerate our supplement, you may wish to speak with your veterinarian about homemade recipes using a combination of supplements designed for humans that can then be given one at a time to see what may be tolerated (click the human supplements checkbox on Step 2 at balance.it/recipes to see those free recipe options). Alternatively, you can see the directories at vetnutritionist.com on our site or vetspecialists.com on ACVIM's for consultation services if you need personalized guidance going forward.

We hope your cat is feeling better now.

Read the fine print

They say their products are good for only 11 months, but the only batch they had for feline is up 4/2024. So, if you want to buy for any time longer, look elsewhere. They now don't make batches as often, to save money, I guess. They don't tell you that, before you buy it, so if you can't get that info, just remember.....

Julia, we're sorry to hear the perishable nature of vitamins apparently caught you by surprise after your most recent order with us. We try to prominently indicate this under the bolded Expiration Date & Storage Instructions section for products that reads, 'This vitamin supplement is perishable. 3-11 months is the typical shelf-life range.'

We looked into your last order that arrived on November 15, 2023 for 10 pouches (200 grams total) of Balance It Feline with an expiration date, we believe, of April 19, 2024 and your only saved recipe in our system that calls for 2.9 grams per day. Based on this, your order should last you about 69 days. Assuming you ordered with a week or so before you were to run out, you would use up your full order on January 30, 2024 or more than 2.5 months before the product would expire.

Alternatively, if you did instead know that the Balance It Feline would expire in April before your last order, and as such chose to continue to order pouches (like you have for all of your four orders since 2021) instead of a larger 500 gram bag, we are sorry this larger sized option, which would have lasted you through May 12, 2024 if ordered, would then have resulted in some of it expiring a few weeks before you could finish the whole 500 gram bag.

Of course, it is possible that you feed other recipes and/or foods and use the supplement at a slower pace (or order earlier) and would like to have your desired ordering frequency better align with our production schedule to maximize the potential expiration date. Unfortunately, we just do not have a way to adjust our production schedule to match your ordering pattern.

We work very hard to make multiple size offerings and product available with as long an expiration date as possible, while being sustainable given the high cost of manufacturing and testing to meet federal human dietary supplement requirements. If you'd like to use (an) alternative(s) to supplement with, we suggest using our free Recipe Builder at balance.it/recipes and checking the human supplement option on Step 2. This will let you buy supplements elsewhere as you suggest that hopefully better align with your desired purchasing frequency.

If that alternative works better for you, please note that you are well within our 45 day return policy window as found in detail here: https://balance.it/faqs#vet_approvals_orders_shipping_260 . We wish you much success in finding the right solution/match and understand if that unfortunately isn't us.
