My dog enjoys the recipes

My dog is on a kidney prescription diet. She recently started the diet. She likes the food. Won't know about kidney function until her next blood test.
I had quite a few questions about BalanceIt recipes, etc. The BalanceIt staff were helpful in answering them. Now that I know how to use the program, I like trying different recipes for my dog.

Debra so glad to hear that our customer care team was able to help empower you. We are also happy to hear that your dog enjoys her food in the midst of her condition.

Balance It Makes Life Saving, Special Diet Possible For My Sheltie!

I am very grateful for the Balance It’s nutrient supplement and meal preparation coaching by the company’s nutritionists. My sheltie has a kidney health condition that has been stabilized by the home made meals and vitamins/minerals. My dog’s kidney levels have much improved and her life expectancy is where it should be! I feel that the Balance It’s program has saved my dog’s life.

Linda, we are touched by your review! Thank you so much for taking the time to share Zoey's story and experience with us! We hope she continues to do well.

Very difficult to order and impossible to open the package!

The product seems to be great, and my dog likes her food and her numbers are much lower which makes us a fan, but, and this is a big But!

I couldn’t order the product over the website and the only way to get customer services attention is leaving a voicemail which they won’t respond for 48 hours. Now I really needed this supplement as my supplement was expiring in a few days. and my dog only eats this food. She has kidney disease. I finally got a hold of customer service 2 days later and they had to have me do some fancy tricks to get my email to log in. Such a joke. Apparently, there are NO phone orders period. Customer service says, “It’s impossible to process an order over the phone! Really, “Impossible!”. What!!!! By the time I finally got the ordered processed, I had to pay for one day delivery and it arrived 3 days later. Are you kidding me! Then when it arrives it was impossible to open the package so that it can be resealed. I followed the directions and got it open correctly, only to find that because it is powder that the super cheap seal that they use doesn’t work because the powdered supplement goes into the lines of the seals. So cheap, for such a great product. I wish their was another product that my Vet could specify for my dog’s food. To the Vet/ owner of the company, and yes, I looked him up, please don’t be so cheap with marketing and handling your very effective product. Put it in a better package and get some additional customer service representatives that can take an order over the phone if need be! Fix you website too, so that those who have only an aol email can order on your site. Very disappointed with the company.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are so happy to hear that your dog likes her food and that her 'numbers' are much lower now.

We apologize for the difficulties you experienced with both opening and ordering your bag of Balance It Canine K Plus.

It can be frustrating when a product is difficult to open and reseal. The child resistant closure (CRC) is required by federal law given the supplement's high nutrient content. This special packaging requirement protects against accidental ingestion of all of the contents at once by a child. Given its inherent and tested/verified design, it can take some additional effort to correctly align the zip closure and press it closed firmly to ensure it remains difficult to open for a child. Upgrading our packaging line to using CRC bags required a significant investment in new equipment and was not made for an economic benefit as you have suggested. Rather we did so to proactively address the growing environmental concern of excessive plastic packaging by manufacturers especially given the poor rate of recycling domestically. This packaging change allowed us to reduce plastic packaging by 82%. We believe we have invested in the best currently available option given concurrent legal/regulatory and environmental concerns.

We also understand the importance of timely delivery, and we are sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations. The transit times displayed at checkout are estimates provided by the carriers, and any carrier shipping timeline is after our standard & published two business day order processing time. With the expedited shipping method you selected, your package shipped out early by us and arrived within the carrier's estimated timeframe of 1-3 business days from the date of shipment. Specifically per our logs, your order was placed the afternoon of February 13, 2024 after speaking with our Customer Care Team member, was picked up by the US Postal Service from our facility the next day on February 14, 2024, and was delivered to you on February 16, 2024 following a 2,300 mile trip via your selected option of USPS Priority Mail.

We regret the inconvenience you experienced with placing an order through our website. You (and others) can always log into an account that uses an AOL email address and place orders. We have reviewed our communications with you and saw that you left a voicemail message for us on February 13, 2024, and a member of our Customer Care Team called you back the same day to help you place your order. It seems you were inadvertently and repeatedly adding an extra space to your email address. This was preventing you from logging in and understandably leading to frustration. Our team member had you delete this space, and you were able to log in successfully and complete your order.

We are happy to more predictably assist you again in the future with placing a new order if needed/desired if you send an email to info@balanceit.com ahead of time. We can then schedule a convenient phone appointment with you to guide you through the online process. With ongoing changes and challenges to credit card security and processing requirements for phone orders, we made the difficult decision awhile back to stop accepting over-the-phone orders. This change is/was not due to any incident or issue we had or have had. Placing an order through our secure online platform is the safest method to order and the highly preferred way for credit card companies.

If you or your veterinarian would like to identify a different method of supplementation and/or feeding given the challenges you have experienced, they or you might find the directory of options of others at ACVIM's vetspecialists.com site helpful. They can potentially formulate an option using a combination of supplements designed for humans that might be easier for you to order locally and/or have shipping times that better meet your needs. Some may still have CRCs but hopefully some may not depending on what nutrient(s) they contain. We would suggest calling around any options found on the directory now if there is any urgency as lead times can be up to four weeks for some programs/services to get back to you with options. We hope you are able to find the solution that best fits your needs and most importantly that your dog continues to do well.

Lola Hare

Unfortunately she wouldn’t eat the food Since there was nothing in the ingredients she shouldn’t have liked, I assume it was the supplements.

Hi Robin, we're sorry to hear that Lola did not seem to enjoy the recipe and/or added supplement.

The underlying condition/disease that requires a restricted dietary phosphorus diet can commonly cause nausea and/or any concurrent reduction in overall dietary protein to enable needed dietary phosphorus restriction (dietary protein is the main source of dietary phosphorus) can reduce appetite/interest in an offered recipe/diet.

The available lower/no added phosphorus Balance It® supplements are well accepted and tolerated even in these cases, but are reliant on the base foods to drive acceptance. However in some rare cases, a homemade diet with any added supplement can be refused. Very slow introduction (over 5-10 days or more) or feeding a new combination of preferred foods & mixing the supplement(s) in well usually can solve or prevent this issue. It is also good to check with your veterinarian about any concurrent medical therapy they might prescribe that can help if nausea is present.

If you would like to give the supplement another try, you can also find some helpful tips by visiting our FAQ ( balance.it/faqs ): My dog/cat will not eat their food with the Balance It® supplement added or mixed in. What should or can I do/try?

We also noticed that you are within our 45 day return policy. If you would like to return your pouch products for a refund, please see our FAQ: What is your Balance It® supplement return policy?

Please feel free to reach out to our Customer Care Team at info@balanceit.com if there's anything else we can assist you with. We hope you find something Lola enjoys that is still appropriate for her condition.
